I have been creating activist art since I was a teenager in the 1980’s. My first piece of protest art was placed on the kitchen refrigerator to protest climate change. It was a hastily drawn earth with Simon & Garfunkel lyrics beneath. My conservative parents were not amused, but I continued to resist through my artwork. My recent protest work focuses on the genocide in Palestine, the support of reproductive rights, civil rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, and the demand for gun reform. At its core, protest art is storytelling in one high impact image, and it’s an artform I enjoy creating.
